2018 Finalist - Innovators and Leaders - LaingBuisson Awards

A finalist in the 'Rising Star' category of the LaingBuisson Health & Care Awards 2018.  Under Professor Gordon Wishart's clinical leadership as Chief Medical Officer, and his handpicked Clinical Advisory Committee, Check4Cancer has become a trusted advisor to private medical insurance companies and the corporate sector, with the development of audited direct referral diagnostic pathways for breast cancer & skin cancer for insured members.

Professor Wishart was recognised for his leadership of Check4Cancer, in particular through the introduction of the following:

Optimisation of private breast cancer diagnostic pathway In January 2016, Professor Wishart launched a direct referral pathway for Cigna-insured members with breast symptoms. Insured patients have rapid access to OneStop breast cancer diagnosis via self-referral, reducing the initial wait to see a GP, and the pathway is audited by Check4Cancer. This pathway is now used by insured members from AXA-PPP and Vitality Health.

Introduction of private skin cancer diagnostic pathway Waiting times to see a skin specialist are long and once examined, and the chance of having a diagnostic biopsy is approx. 70%. In 2016, Check4Cancer launched a self-referral diagnostic pathway for insured patients with worrying skin lesions. The pathway involves rapid access to a nurse specialist with uploading of digital and dermoscopic images for telemedicine reporting.

Launch of MyBreastRisk breast cancer risk test The first commercially available test worldwide that combines inherited, genetic and lifestyle factors to help women discover their personal lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. The test allows women to have a more personalised breast screening programme that is tailored to their age and underlying risk.
