Cancer Research UK highlight a 54% increase in cervical cancer rates in women aged 25-29

Professor Gordon Wishart, our CEO and Chief Medical Officer comments on the 54% increase in cervical cancer rates in women aged 25-29 as reported by Cancer Research UK.

Gordon Wishart comments; ''today's figures from Cancer Research UK highlight a 54% increase in cervical cancer rates in women aged 25-29. These results are partly explained by the low screening attendance figures for this age group, with 1 in 3 women choosing not to accept the free NHS invitation compared to 1 in 4 for all ages.'' Gordon further comments; ''it is also important to point out the current vaccination programme against HPV infection only protects against 70% of all HPV types so protection is not complete, and screening remains an essential part of attempts to eradicate this disease.''

GynaeHealth, part of Check4Cancer, provides a comfortable and reliable to use at-home test for HPV, find out more about the test here.
