What is a OneStop breast clinic

A OneStop breast clinic is a fast track diagnostic clinic for any woman who has noticed recent changes in her breast such as a lump, breast pain, discharge or nipple inversion.

What does OneStop involve

These clinics offer triple assessment which provides a rapid and accurate diagnosis of breast cancer and includes the following:

  • Clinical breast examination – a physical examination of the breasts (included in the initial consultation fee)
  • Breast ultrasound +/- mammography (an additional fee if required)
  • Needle core biopsy if lump found (an additional fee if required)

The benefit of having all of these tests performed on one day is that it will ensure a faster diagnosis which means that any treatment required can be started without delay.

An initial OneStop breast clinic consultation costs £250 (£270 in London)

Ultrasound, mammography, biopsy, pathology, cyst aspiration and any other follow up procedures that are recommended will be additional charges directly from the hospital.

What is a screening mammogram

Screening mammograms are different to diagnostic mammograms. Diagnostic mammograms are used to investigate a specific area of the breast which is of concern and are usually performed within a OneStop breast clinic. Screening mammograms are used to look at the whole breast of someone without any symptoms.

What does a screening mammogram involve

During a screening mammography, the breast is pressed down firmly and an x-ray picture is taken. Although it may cause mild discomfort, it can detect breast cancer at an early stage before changes can be felt in the breast by you or your doctor.
