Check4Cancer Ltd appoints new Clinical Director

Check4Cancer Ltd is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Sam Janes as new Clinical Advisor for their early detection programme in lung cancer.

-          Professor Janes replaces Mr Aman Coonar as Clinical Director of LungHealth UK

Professor Janes is Professor of Respiratory Medicine at University College London and Director of the lung cancer programme for London Cancer, and he has strong research interest in improving diagnostic techniques for lung cancer.

Professor Janes qualified in 1992. He leads a group interested in the pathogenesis of lung disease including cancer formation and its treatment with new biological and cellular therapies within UCL Respiratory Research Department. He has a particular interest in using stem cells as a cellular vector for gene therapy in cancers.

In 2012, he formed the Lungs for Living Research Centre supported by the UCLH Charitable Foundation focusing on researching early lung cancer and the role of stem cells in its formation and treatments. His important work has been recognised by a number of international awards for his research team and the personal award of European Thoracic Oncology Investigator of the Year in 2010.

Having published around 100 papers surrounding lung cancer, Professor Janes sits on the British Thoracic Society and British Lung Foundation scientific committees.

Professor Gordon Wishart, medical director of Check4Cancer, said, “I am delighted to welcome Professor Janes to our Clinical Advisory Board. We share a common goal to improve patient survival and experience by detecting lung cancer early, and by working together we hope to improve the outcome for patients diagnosed with lung cancer in the corporate and private sector”.

Professor Janes says “I am pleased to become part of Check4Cancer’s team. I am committed to fighting lung cancer and support anything that might lead to an earlier detection of this brutal disease.”
