Check4Cancer and BNY Mellon runners-up at Employee Benefits Awards 2016

Check4Cancer and BNY Mellon received recognition at the Employee Benefits Awards 2016, achieving runner up position for ‘Best healthcare and wellbeing benefits – large employer’.

ebaThe judges were looking for an employer that has successfully implemented a benefits strategy to support employee health and wellbeing and improve productivity and staff engagement by doing so. The category required employers with more than 1,000 staff.

BNY Mellon is a global investments company with expertise across the investment lifecycle. Headquartered in New York, the company delivers informed investment management and investment services in 35 countries and more than 100 markets. In April 2015, BNY Mellon ran a Bowel Cancer Awareness campaign for its 7,000 employees in the UK and Ireland. Implemented by Check4Cancer, it offered employees free bowel cancer tests which could be carried out in the privacy of their own homes. To read the full case study, please click here.

Melanie Hilton, EMEA Wellbeing Manager, Bank of New York Mellon, comments: “We have been working with Check4Cancer for several years now. Our first campaign was for breast cancer, and we then added a breast Cancer Check to our flexible benefits platform for both employees and their partners.” BNYM has since expanded its flexible benefits menu to include BowelCheck, SkinCheck, GynaeCheck, LungCheck and ProstateCheck as well as BreastCheck.

Melanie adds: “Cancer is a major issue. With a wellbeing programme, the reason you do it is that you want more protected, more engaged employees. That also maximises your output, so, it’s a no-brainer.

“Businesses are always looking at return on investment. If we have one case of cancer, that could cost many thousands of pounds in private medical insurance, so if we can prevent that case, there’s a cost saving – and therefore a strong financial reason to do it. But we’re also human beings, and there is a duty of care to look after employees and show that we do care about them. Hopefully those people will feel more valued and supported by the company, and just happier in their work.”
