Over 40,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year and over 10,000 men a year die from the disease.
Nearly half of all men are expected to get prostate cancer at some stage in their life. The chances of survival are extremely high in those men whose tumours are diagnosed when there are few symptoms and when the disease is confined to the prostate gland.
The standard test for early detection of prostate cancer is for PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) which can lead to unwarranted further investigations. With the introduction of ProstateCheck 30-50% of all unnecessary biopsies can be eliminated. In patients with an elevated PSA, measurement of hK2 will be performed to increase the accuracy of the results and reduce the risk of unnecessary prostate biopsy.
ProstateCheck comprises 3 simple steps:
After the appointment we issue the result letter and personalised early detection programme. Should any employee be considered at high risk, they will be referred to a consultant urologist for further assessment and investigation.
All men over 40 can benefit from ProstateCheck.
Employers can offer ProstateCheck on site if they have suitable facilities. This includes a room that is private along with a hand wash basin, couch and access to a printer and the internet. If such facilities are not available, we use private clinics in our network across the UK. Alternatively, Check4Cancer can guide your staff how best to get their GP surgery to do the blood sample. Check4Cancer will organise the logistics and ensure the process is as painless as possible for your staff.
By offering these services to its staff, an employer can achieve up to 25% discount on standard pricing. With prices starting at £160, a typical taxpayer will pay around £7 per month under salary sacrifice. For company sponsored campaigns, prices are negotiable depending on company size and the extent of the service offering.
In addition to screening, we are able to offer presentations to groups of employees to provide education about prostate cancer symptoms, risks and treatment options. The optimum group size for these is 40 and there are opportunities to ask any questions as well as receive a copy of the presentation along with a My Prostate Health brochure.
For companies wanting to run a screening campaign, we can also offer copy material suitable for company intranets along with banners, table tents and posters to help promote the campaign. We can also co-brand client specific websites for a campaign as shown to the right.
